My name is Claire Rocuzzi, I live in Gauteng, South Africa.
After
giving birth to my first daughter, I gained a passion for mothers-to-be, especially
since my own birth was not as planned. I laboured for 8 hours and when my
daughter started to crown she arched her back making it impossible to give
natural birth without harm to both my baby and myself.
I was then rushed into theatre for an emergency caesarean section under general
anesthetic, which was not at all what we had planned.
I believe that if a doula/birth companion had been present things may have gone differently. At worst there would have been a support person for us during and after the caesar. Since then I have longed to help mothers-to-be and partners to have a positive birthing experience no matter what happens.
I am now
a proud mother of 2 daughters, married to a wonderful and supportive husband,
and have qualified as a certified birth companion/doula, and have completed
parts of the perinatal education programme and will eventually also study
lactation. I am currently listed on the W.O.M.B.S database, as well as being
able to operate within most hospitals. For the past 2 years I have worked
part-time at a well-baby clinic, where I have gained much knowledge on the
care and growth of newborns. I would love to assist in making your birth experience
a "better birthing" experience.
